[ODE] Trouble installing ODE (from SVN) on Mac OS X

I have just checked out the most recent version of ODE from SVN. I am  
running Mac OS X on an intel processor. I run 'sh autogen.sh' and get  
the following error:

automake: ode/src/Makefile.am: C source seen but `CC' not defined in  
`configure.in'

I tried defining CC in configure.in, but the error persists. When I  
define AC_PROG_CC in configure.in, the error does not appear but no  
configure script is generated. Please help,
