Because on the day job everyone is getting paid. They have to do their
work and they have to follow the process.

Are you volunteering?

I can create the 0.6 branch, that's easy. I can ask people to put bug
fixes on that branch. I can even offer to periodically merge the
branch back to the trunk. That's it for me though. I'm willing to live
with some instability in order to free up time to work on my software.
