Is there any realistic justification in either case for/against
sqrt(A*B) rather than simply (A*B)?  I know someone commented
that this means that f(N,N) = N, but I don't think that physics
is necessarily obliged to agree with a human sense of aesthetics.

On the other hand sqrt(A*B) is sqrt(A)*sqrt(B) so if the values
of A and B have been empirically derived then it all comes out in
the wash anyway.
