[ODE] how to create a geom only?

I need a body that is fixed to another body, but interacts with other
bodies. The ODE Manual provides an answer: create a geom only. I am trying
but the program crushes in collision_kernel.cpp. I suppose that I am making
a mistake in declaring the geom only. May I ask what is a correct sequence
for that?
