I was just going through case by case and adding the missing bits. eg 
setting Hinge2 params

I got to the point where it was getting a bit ugly so i was going to 
create a joint base class and some specialised joints on top.
 From memory there were other candidates for derived classes but I've 
forgotten. I don't have code in front of me.

Sounds like you are a bit ahead of me.

I stopped because...
a) I had what I needed for the time being and
b) I wanted to spend some time thinking about the performance issues. 
The old virtual function thing was concerning me ( I know, I know...) I 
was going to have a look at the possibility of getting at the cpp that 
is hiding underneath the c interface.
